Should We Rejoice?

Sunday, 2006-December-31

Let's start with the words from Proverbs 24.

Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;
Lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him,
And He turn away His wrath from him.

I find the following entries highly inappropriate for a Christian.  We who believe that anyone who dies without Christ is destined for eternal punishment do not celebrate or rejoice when someone dies in that condition.  As long as he was alive, there was always a chance that he would turn from his path and be converted.  Now, that chance is gone forever, and that man's doom is sealed.  Note that I am not saying that I am against capital punishment, but I am saying that it needs to be something that believers accept reluctantly—if at all—instead of something that we sing, "ding dong, the witch is dead…".

I really hope this is an isolated case, and not a symptom of something that is more widespread.

    I agree with you. Death is no celebrating matter. God doesn’t judge a man until he is dead .. and neither should we. It is just not our place.
