KJ-52 In Hesperia
Sunday, 2007-April-29
Calvary Chapel of the High Desert in Hesperia, California, hosted a concert by Christian rap artist KJ-52 tonight. For those who have not seen KJ-52 in person, the man moves the entire time he is on the stage, and tonight was no exception.
MJ was at a youth retreat, so I met up with my friend Jack, and his two boys. We ended up sitting right behind Kristen, a former co-worker, and her son. I saw a few others that I knew from previous employment or college or churches, too.
For both of us fortyish guys, the music was too loud and the artist's volume was too low, so it was difficult to understand the words. However, many of the songs were familiar enough that I could have sung along. I have not yet heard songs off the new CD enough to recognize them. I think part of the enjoyment also comes from watching the kids enjoy it.
This was Jack's first time seeing KJ-52 in person. I had seen him a couple of years ago at Spirit West Coast (three times in one weekend) followed by an appearance in Hesperia a few weeks later.
Afterwards, we three talked about the music, the artist, our lives, and the kids for over an hour. Next weekend is Seventh Day Slumber. A good time for all, with several people deciding to make personal commitments, which makes it even better.
If you are concerned about some of the lyrics that your kids listen to, see whether KJ-52's music might be a part of your family's solution.
