HF0176 Status in House for Legislative Session 85
There has been little or no action posted on HF0176, but I did see that an additional author has been added. There is no action listed for the companion Senate bill yet.
We will be keeping a watch on Minnesota and Texas, in order to ensure that there are no financial shenanigans that influence the adoption of open standard document formats. I should note that the language of these various bills is such that it is possible for a competing ISO-standardized format to possibly be approved if and only if such format met certain openness standards that it does not appear ECMA 376 currently meets.
Meanwhile, in Texas, SB446 has had its first reading.
Let us keep contacting our state representatives, requesting that they adopt open standard file formats. If you are in California, be sure to let me know if you get any responses. So far, my contacts have had surprisingly little feedback.
